Three kilometers east of Chichen Itza, Cenote Saamal is one of the most photographed natural sites in Mexico. It is a circular open-sky cenote 60 meters in diameter and 40 meters deep, with hanging vines draped from the ceiling and small waterfalls trickling down the limestone walls. The water is crystal clear and blue-green, maintained at approximately 24–26°C (75–79°F) year-round by the underground aquifer.

Entry is by stone staircase carved into the rock wall — safe for all ages, no special fitness required. Life jackets are available and required for non-swimmers. Lockers and changing facilities are on-site. Plan to spend 45–60 minutes here — it is one of the highlights of the day.

Valladolid is 43 kilometers east of Chichen Itza and 40 kilometers west of Tulum — a perfectly preserved colonial city founded in 1543, built on top of the ancient Maya city of Zaci. Your group stops for approximately 30–45 minutes to walk the main plaza, photograph the yellow-painted San Servacio Cathedral, and browse artisan stalls selling Yucatecan embroidered clothing, Talavera ceramics, and local honey.

Many guests discover that Valladolid is a surprise highlight of the day — a genuine, unhurried Mexican city where the tourists are outnumbered by locals going about their daily lives. The central market on the east side of the plaza sells fresh fruit, tortillas, and street snacks if you want a taste of authentic Yucatecan food.
