About this activity

Three Destinations in One Day

The Classic Chichen Itza Tour covers three of the Yucatán's most iconic destinations in a single well-organized day:

1

1. Chichen Itza Archaeological Site

Your certified guide leads a 2–2.5 hour tour of the main archaeological zone, covering the following landmarks: El Castillo (Kukulcan Pyramid) — the 30-meter step pyramid at the center of the site, whose design encodes the 365-day solar calendar Great Ball Court — the largest in Mesoamerica at 168 meters long, with extraordinary acoustic properties your guide will demonstrate Temple of the Warriors — a stepped pyramid ringed by hundreds of carved stone columns, showing the Toltec influence on Maya architecture The Sacred Cenote — the ceremonial sinkhole where the Maya made offerings for 500 years, accessible via a stone path from the main plaza El Caracol Observatory — the circular tower whose windows align with Venus's astronomical declinations

2. Cenote Ik Kil - Swimming in a Natural Wonder

Three kilometers east of Chichen Itza, Cenote Ik Kil is one of the most photographed natural sites in Mexico. It is a circular open-sky cenote 60 meters in diameter and 40 meters deep, with hanging vines draped from the ceiling and small waterfalls trickling down the limestone walls. The water is crystal clear and blue-green, maintained at approximately 24–26°C (75–79°F) year-round by the underground aquifer. Entry is by stone staircase carved into the rock wall — safe for all ages, no special fitness required. Life jackets are available and required for non-swimmers. Lockers and changing facilities are on-site. Plan to spend 45–60 minutes here — it is one of the highlights of the day.

3. Valladolid — Colonial City of the Yucatán

Valladolid is 43 kilometers east of Chichen Itza and 40 kilometers west of Tulum — a perfectly preserved colonial city founded in 1543, built on top of the ancient Maya city of Zaci. Your group stops for approximately 30–45 minutes to walk the main plaza, photograph the yellow-painted San Servacio Cathedral, and browse artisan stalls selling Yucatecan embroidered clothing, Talavera ceramics, and local honey. Many guests discover that Valladolid is a surprise highlight of the day — a genuine, unhurried Mexican city where the tourists are outnumbered by locals going about their daily lives. The central market on the east side of the plaza sells fresh fruit, tortillas, and street snacks if you want a taste of authentic Yucatecan food.

Is the Classic Tour Right for You?

The Classic Tour is the right choice if:

  • You are traveling solo or as a couple and enjoy meeting other travelers from around the world
  • Budget is a priority - the group tour offers the lowest per-person price for Chichen Itza
  • You prefer not to manage any logistics - the fixed itinerary handles everything
  • You are comfortable with a structured schedule and don't need to linger at specific landmarks

Consider our Private Tour instead if:

  • You are traveling with a family including young children who may need flexible timing
  • You want to spend more time at specific structures like the Sacred Cenote or El Castillo without the group moving on
  • You value quiet over social atmosphere and prefer not to share your guide's attention
  • Your group is 4 or more people - at that size, a private tour may cost similar per person
